• A History of the Sikhs, from the Origin of the Nation to the Battles of the Sutlej is an early and influential English‑language history of the Sikh people, religion, and polity. First published in 1849. 
• It was the first comprehensive English history of the Sikhs, written by someone who lived in the Punjab and witnessed key events leading up to and during the First Anglo‑Sikh War (1845–46).
